RELIC CONFEDERATE BRIDLE-CUTTER PIKE BLADE

$450.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 883-256

This excavated pike blade is a rare Confederate relic! The double-edged blade measures 12.5" with a 4" downward curved blade extending from its base. The overall length (blade + socket) is about 19". The smaller, hooked blade was designed to cut the reins and/or bridle of attacking cavalry causing them to lose control of their mounts. This was one of many recovered in 1980 along the old Wilmington & Manchester Railroad in South Carolina. The recovery site was where Federal cavalry destroyed a train loaded with arms that was en route to Bentonville, North Carolina. The piece has been cleaned and well preserved. There is some chipping on the edge of the blade and holes in the socket. However, this is solid and one of the better recovered specimens from this particular cache of weapons. [JET]
