This is a rare, excavated 4-pdr. artillery shell or possibly a grenade. It measures just over 3” in diameter. There is a ¾” fuse hole. Iron shows moderate to heavy pitting. This piece has not been preserved or coated. This is either a Civil War-era grenade or a Revolutionary War-era shell for a 4-pdr. cannon. Recovery location unknown. [jet]
