This is a 3” x 3.5” fragment of an artillery shell. This is approximately half of the nose of a Confederate Read shell complete with the 2” long copper fuse adapter. The iron has been coated and there is no flaking. The fuse has an attractive green patina. Marked on one side in white paint is “SCH” which stands for Spotsylvania Court House, in Virginia. [JET]
