This is an excavated .44 caliber boot pistol. Constructed of iron, this is nearly the complete gun missing only the trigger guard and wood grips. The iron is moderately pitted but has been cleaned and coated. Some minor surface rust is forming in spots that can be easily brushed off and recoated. The barrel is clear and the trigger and hammer are present. Of special note is that a copper percussion cap is still mounted on the cone. The hammer is down in the “fired” position but the cap is visible through a small chip missing from the edge of the hammer. This gun is solid and a very interesting relic. Site of recovery is unknown. [jet]
