$995.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 172-4154

This is a “battlefield pick up” condition Confederate saber bayonet. Overall length is 27 ¼”. Blade measures 22 ½”, has a fuller and has several nicks in the blade. The iron is dark brown and rusty, but not heavily pitted. Cross guard and handle are one-piece of cast brass. Top of cross guard features a forward-facing quillion atop a loop to mount the bayonet onto a rifle. The bottom portion of the cross guard has broken off. The handle grip has several small dings and scrapes but is in very good condition, and retains the iron spring-catch and button at the pommel end. The brass displays a nice, rich copper tone.

Manufactured in New Orleans for the Cook rifle.  Production there began at the New Orleans factory, was interrupted when the Union took over New Orleans and continued at the Selma Arsenal.  [jet]
