Lead shot in tar matrix visible, various sizes. This shell used a Bormann time fuse. Visible are pistol and musket balls. Both Union and Confederate shells were filled in this fashion, making them into case-shot projectiles. Center of shell matrix shows cylindrical cavity where a bursting charge occurred.  [WS]
