This is an excavated appendage for a musket.  This is a wiper and resembles a double cork screw. In use this was screwed onto the threaded end of the ramrod and used to remove cartridge paper and occasionally bullets from the barrel. This is a longer style for a .54 caliber gun, and is 3 ¼” long. Iron is pitted, but has been well preserved and coated.  [jet]
