This is an excavated solid cast “I” infantry button as used by the Confederacy.  Coat size. Face is in good shape with the large roman “I” in the center and a well-defined rim. The cast shank is present and upright. The patina is a uniform brown. The button has been sprayed with some type of clear coat.  [jet]
