This money belt was displayed in a G.A.R. hall. It has two paper tags attached. One has the inventory number, “81” and then other, which has ripped, is documenting the history of the belt. It reads, “FOUND July 22, 1864 WITH $4.00 AND 8 CENTS IN IT”. Belt was recovered from the battlefield of Atlanta, Georgia at the place where General McPherson was killed.
Belt measures 24 ¾” long x 2 ½” wide. Leather exhibits moderate crazing. Belt was made of one wide piece of leather which was folded and stitched. It features three pockets with snap closures. Fastens with leather tabs which have torn. [sm]
