Good sized piece of pine wood meas. approx. 6.50 inches long x 2.00 inches wide x 1.50 inches tall. Lodged in the wood at center is a fired Confederate Gardner bullet.
This bullet in wood is mounted on a finished wood base that meas. approx. 6.50 x 2.50 x 0.50 inch. Attached to opposite corners of the base in front of the bullet in wood are two dropped .58 three ringers.
Attached to the bottom of the base is a typed paper label that reads “THIS IS A CONFEDERATE BULLET CUT FROM A PINE TREE THAT STOOD ON THE BATTLEFIELD OF CHANCELLORSVILLE, VIRGINIA, JULY 17TH, 1920 BY DEAN RICHMOND. BATTLE FOUGHT MAY 2-3-1863 BETWEEN GENERALS HOOKER AND ROBERT E. LEE. UNION LOSSES 3300 CONFEDERATE LOSSES 22000 UNION BULLETS FOUND ON BATTLEFIELD. [ad]
