This style of bullet is actually a self-contained cartridge. A deep cavity holds the powder and is sealed with a primer. These were patented by Smith & Wesson in 1856. This specimen features a brass primer with iron anvil. This is excavated and is in amazing condition. Measures .352” x .562”. [jet]
