This is an excavated specimen and this 14-pdr. size was for the 3.8” James rifle. The lead sabot is missing. The patent information is still evident as cast into the base cup. The shell has been cleaned and coated long ago, and could probably stand to be recoated. A silver paint identification has been applied by noted author/collector Mac Mason. It reads, “U.S. 3 ¾” – 6 PNDR. SOLID SHOT WEIGHT 14.5 LBS [scroll]”.
A very nice and displayable “Mac Mason” artillery shell. [jet]
