CONFEDERATE 3-INCH BROUN SHELL

$200.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 980-04

Excavated late-war Confederate artillery shell for 3-inch ordnance rifles. Round nose with hole for drive-in fuse. Single 1-inch wide bourrelet near top of shell.  The copper sabot that served as the second bourrelet (bearing surface) was stripped off when fired and is missing. The bourrelet and the sabot would have been machined on a lathe to the proper tolerance required.  Slightly rounded base with a lathe “dimple” in the center. This specimen is in typical relic condition with pitted surface.   [jet]
