This excavated plate has a brass face with uncleaned brown surface patina. The detail on the eagle is good. The reverse has most of the lead fill. One small shovel “ding” on rim. Both iron hooks have rusted off. The relic hunter wrote on the back, “CHANCELLORSVILLE / C-16 / FURNACE RD. SLOCUM’S 12TH CORPS OR / SYKES 2ND DIV. 5TH CORPS. / DUG 9/17/91”. A good “dug” breast plate. [jet]
