This excavated Pattern 1839 oval US belt plate has clean brown patina. There are a couple of edge cracks in the bottom edge. The “US” stands out well. The plate’s reverse has most of the lead fill with some loss along the bottom and right edges. The tongue and both arrow hooks remain. The relic hunter wrote on the back, “CHANCELLORSVILLE 10/11/99 … DUG BY MOM”. An original Civil War enlistedman’s belt buckle from Chancellorsville. [jet]
