This curved section of tree, measuring approx. 14” x 1” on diameter has a period tag attached which reads, “UNDER THIS TREE COMMANDING HIS TROOPS STOOD GENERAL A.P. HILL, AT THE BATTLE OF ANTIETAM. FROM G.A.R. POST #12.” Tree limb is very solid.

At the time of the Battle of Antietam, September 17, 1862 A.P. Hill was a Confederate Major General from the state of Virginia. By the end of the war, he was promoted to the rank of Corps. Commander. G.A.R. post #12 was located in Philadelphia, PA where veterans met to relive their memories of battles and fallen comrades.  [SL]
