This excavated Pattern 1839 oval US belt plate has clean brown/green patina. The brass face is nice and the “US” stands out well. There is some edge loss along the upper edge. The plate’s reverse has most of the lead fill with exception of damaged edges. The tongue hook is broken and missing, but both “puppy paw” hooks remain. This relic was recovered near Cedar Mountain.  An original “dug” Civil War enlistedman’s belt buckle.   [jet]
