This excavated Pattern 1839 oval US belt plate has clean tan patina. The brass face features the stamped “US”. There is edge loss. The plate’s reverse has lost most of the lead fill and it appears to have been melted out. The tongue hook remains, but both “arrow” hooks are broken off. This relic was recovered near Falling Waters.  An original “dug” Civil War enlistedman’s belt buckle.   [jet]
