Item Code: R22803

This excavated Pattern 1839 oval US cartridge box plate has nice brown patina. The brass face is nice and the “US” stands out well. The face has a slight reverse curve and a couple of fine cracks caused by ground freeze and thaw over the years. The plate’s reverse has 99% of the lead fill. The two iron loops have rusted off. This relic was recovered in Pleasant Valley (near Harpers Ferry).  An original “dug” Civil War enlistedman’s cartridge box plate.   [jet]
