This excavated Pattern 1839 oval US cartridge box plate has a beautiful brown patina. The brass face is smooth and the “US” stands out well. The plate’s reverse has 99.9% of the lead fill. The two iron loops remain and are bent flat. This relic was recovered near Harpers Ferry, WV.  An original “dug” Civil War enlistedman’s cartridge box plate.   [jet]
