This excavated Pattern 1839 oval US cartridge box plate has nice brown patina. The brass face is nice though rough to the touch; the “US” stands out well. The plate’s reverse has most of the lead fill with the exception of minor damaged areas along edges. The two iron loops have rusted off. This relic was recovered at Cedar Creek. An original “dug” Civil War enlistedman’s cartridge box plate.   [jet]
