This excavated Pattern 1839 oval US cartridge box plate has a green/brown patina. The brass face is smooth with central “US”.  The plate’s reverse has 95% of the lead fill. The two iron loops have rusted off. This relic was recovered at Crampton’s Gap (Antietam campaign).  An original “dug” Civil War enlistedman’s cartridge box plate.   [jet]
