This excavated Pattern 1839 oval US cartridge box plate has a pretty brown patina. The brass face is smooth with central “US”.  The plate’s reverse has 99.9% of the lead fill. One of the two iron loops remains. This relic was recovered near Harpers Ferry, WV.  An original “dug” Civil War enlistedman’s cartridge box plate.   [jet]
