GREAT CONFEDERATE SIDE KNIFE

$1,250.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1000-750

Here is the stereotypical Confederate side knife as seen in so many southern tintype images.  This one is in relic condition; possibly dug, possibly found in a barn.  The iron is rusted but most of the wood grips remain!

Measuring more than 17” overall, this knife has a blade that is 11 3/4” long and 2 1/8” wide at the hilt.  The blade is rusted with shallow pitting, but is stable with no active flaking.  The iron cross guard is 5” long!

The tang extends from the blade an additional 5”.  It passes through the guard and utilizes three pins to hold a wood grip to each side.  These original wood hand grips are worn and have shrunk as you would expect.  The wood on one side remains in decent condition while the grip of the other side shows heavy wear/ground action and cracks.

A great example of a CS side knife!   [jet]
