This is a Confederate-made sword in the style of the Federal “light cavalry” saber.
Measuring about 38” overall, the rusty blade is about 32” long with a width of just over 1”. Blade is typical of Southern manufacture with flat spine and no gutters. Being a “dug” relic, the iron blade is rusty and a portion of the tip is gone. Although a “dug” relic, the iron is stable and there is no active flaking.
The brass knuckle guard and pommel have a nice dark green/brown patina. The grip and wire are long gone. The underside of the pommel cap is bent and the pommel is detached from the end of the blade tang and it wobbles. Otherwise this sword is complete and a perfect excavated example of a Southern cavalry saber. [jet]
