AWESOME CONFEDERATE SIDE KNIFE

Here is another example of the stereotypical Confederate side knife.  This one is in “relic” condition; probably found in a barn.  The iron is heavily rusted but the wood grip remains in very good condition!

Measuring more than 20” overall, this knife has a blade that is 15 1/4” long and 1 3/4” wide at the hilt.  The clipped point blade is rusted with moderate pitting. The edge has several nicks and chips.

This knife has an interesting cross guard.  The guard is 5” long and each end features an additional 2” prong pointing forward. Attached to the bottom “prong” is a knuckle bow that extends to the end of the tang.

A 1” cup extends from the cross guard to seat the wood grip.  The dark wood grip is in good condition and held in place by the knuckle bow that is peened to the tang.

A great example of a CS side knife!   [jet]
