Item Code: 33-456

This is a .58 caliber “cleaner” bullet is the remnants of a tree.  Elijah Williams was the inventor and received a patent for this pattern of bullet. This is the “type III” bullet that was produced in the latter years of the war. This shorter pattern of bullet was made to be more economical when the price of lead was soaring due to the war’s high demand for the mineral.

This round was fired and struck a tree. The remaining section of wood is 3 ½” long x 1” wide. Bullet is nicely exposed in the wood. Recovered from Five Forks, VA.  [jet]
