This Civil War Ohio Volunteer Militia Enlisted Infantry belt plate is in very good excavated condition. This early war belt plate measures 53 mm x 78 mm and is constructed from die-struck rolled sheet brass. Backside is filled with lead and has single arrow hook, which has been repaired, and clasp device embedded.
This enlisted pattern plate has raised letters “O V M” centered on the face. The rim is lightly flattened around the edge and the plate is slightly concave. Lead backing is solid with no loss but a minor crack where the brass and lead meet. Face has smooth, dark, perfectly even patina.
Recovered near Murfressboro, TN in the camp of the 6th Ohio infantry in 1983. [jet]
