This is an excavated specimen and this common size was for the 3” Ordnance rifle. This shell was fired and retains its lead sabot and base cup. No fuse. The iron and lead show heavy pitting and the piece is in typical “dug” condition. Flame grooves run up the sides.  Recovered from Fredericksburg, VA.    [jet]
