This “dug” Federal cartridge box plate is of the regulation 1839. Constructed in the die-struck and rolled brass method, the brass accoutrement’s face shows a clear “US” with dark brown patina. One small freeze crack on bottom rim. Lead filled back retains 99% of lead fill. No maker’s mark and the two wire loops have rusted away.  Marked in white paint on front, “Antietam Creek / Antietam Battlefield”.
