This coat-size Confederate infantryman’s button recently came to us in group of buttons excavated in central Virginia. This has a nice, full chocolate patina of the face with a tad of gray showing, but good definition of the branch of service letter. The back and shank are in place, though the shank is bent over.
This particular button was excavated at Clark’s Mountain, an important Confederate observation point from which to keep an eye on Union camps and troop movements for miles around. [sr]
