Plate has a mixed green & black patina. The green patina usually means that this plate came from a fertilized field. Fertilized fields are plowed and this plate shows the effects of a plow strike on the lower right edge which is slightly curled. There is also a freeze crack just above the letter “U.” Face still has a good strong “US” stamping.

Reverse has none of the lead fill but does have both arrow hooks and tongue. The plate may have been in a fire like what happened at the battle of the Wilderness or a soldier could have melted the lead out of sheer boredom. Who knows?  Reverse shows some edge curling that is not readily apparent from the front. Reverse also has a small dot of white ink with a collector code.

Area of recovery is not known.  [ad]
