Smith received a patent on June 18, 1861 for a metallic false embroidered shoulder strap.
This is just one of the stamped brass borders and a single lieutenant’s bar. This excavated relic is 1 ½ inches wide and 4 inches in length. The false embroider border is ¼ inch wide. The lieutenant bar is about 1/4” x 5/8”. Both pieces have great patina. No wire remains on back although solder marks are there. A very interesting excavated relic. [jet]
