The model 1858 canteen was the most popular canteen of the Civil War period. Canteen measures approximately 7 ¾” in diameter. This is in relic condition and was recovered at Port Hudson, LA. The body of the canteen is heavily rusted with several holes. There are remains of two of the three strap brackets. The pewter spout is complete and in good condition. A white “7” is painted on one side and may be a catalog number.

Comes with attached tag from James D. Julia auctions with ink note that it was from Tom Dickey.

Coated long ago and remains in solid condition. A good relic example of a Civil War smooth-side canteen.  [jet]
