Item Code: 344-789

Recovered at an unknown location, this excavated die-struck, brass, oval waist belt plate specimen is in very good relic condition. Measures a full 3½” x 2¼” and has a more elongated shape and contour. Face of specimen has the large raised letters “US” and the double border but has a number of old surface nicks and dents. Face wears a medium brown patina overall with light colored oxidation showing on most of the surface. Back side retains both puppy paw hooks plus the single clasp.  Lead backside is light gray with much oxidation.  Lead surface is strong with slight cracking and edge erosion prominent. The egg-shaped plate has three small dents on the border. This excavated, brass U.S. oval waist belt plate is a genuine artifact of battle that would be worthy addition to Civil War plate collection.
