RESIN MINIATURE OF THE 1ST MARYLAND (US) INFANTRY MONUMENT AT GETTYSBURG

$45.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 460-1454

Back in the late 1990’s resin miniatures of some of the Gettysburg battlefield monuments were offered for sale here at The Horse Soldier and were very popular. The company producing these monuments was small and eventually stopped production. Fortunately they have brought us the unsold portion of their inventory so we can once again offer these fine replicas to the public.

Though made of resin the monuments are painted and textured to match carved stone.

The particular miniature monument offered here is for the 1st Maryland Infantry. The item stands approx. 4.50 inches high x 6 5/8 inches across the base. Depicted on the face of the monument is a soldier lying behind a rock with his musket ready to fire. Above and to the right of the soldiers head is a recessed five-pointed star representing the 12th Corps. Behind the soldier’s head is “1ST REGT. EASTERN SHORE / MARYLAND VOL. INFANTRY. / COL. JAS. WALLACE / LOCKWOOD’S INDEPENDENT BRIG. / 12TH CORPS.” Another line of text under the soldier reads “MARYLAND’S TRIBUTE TO HER LOYAL SONS.”

The reverse, unlike the original monument, is devoid of any text. Due to the scale of the miniature any text on the reverse would be unreadable.

The original monument to the 1st Maryland Eastern Shore stands east of Slocum Ave on Culp’s Hill. The regiment was assigned to the 1st Division, 12th Corps at Gettysburg. It carried 583 men into the battle and lost 5 men killed, 16 wounded and 2 missing.
