RESIN MINIATURE OF THE 143RD PENNSYLVANIA MONUMENT AT GETTYSBURG

$45.00 SOLD

Item Code: 460-1451

Back in the late 1990’s resin miniatures of some of the Gettysburg battlefield monuments were offered for sale here at The Horse Soldier and were very popular. The company producing these monuments was small and eventually stopped production. Fortunately they have brought us the unsold portion of their inventory so we can once again offer these fine replicas to the public.

Though made of resin the monuments are painted and textured to match carved stone.

The particular miniature monument offered here is for the 143rd Pennsylvania Infantry. The item stands approx. 5.50 inches high x 3.50 inches across the base. Depicted on the face of the monument is a soldier carrying a flag in one hand and shaking his fist at the enemy. The soldier depicted represents Sergeant Ben Crippen who was killed carrying the colors of the 143rd during their retreat on July 1st.  Beneath Sergeant Crippen’s shaking fist is a raised decoration of a 1st Corps badge and “143RD PENNA. / INFANTRY / 2d BRIG 3d DIV / 1ST CORPS.” Above the Sergeant’s arm is the seal of the State of Pennsylvania touched with bronze paint.

The reverse, unlike the original monument, is devoid of any text. Due to the scale of the miniature any text on the reverse would be unreadable.

The original monument to the 143rd Pennsylvania stands just west of Gettysburg along modern US Route 30. The regiment carried 515 men into the battle and lost 21 men killed, 141 wounded and 91 missing.
