While this flag was not actually used in battle, it is the next best thing, as it was used by the Confederate veterans themselves at the U.C.V. camp meetings and reunions. Flag is made of a wool/cotton bunting. The red field is constructed of two pieces, which are hand sewn horizontally. Seams on right and left edges are also hand sewn. The muslin border and stars appear to be machine sewn.
The red and blue colors have retained their brightness. Flag does have areas of stress separation, fraying and possible moth damage on edges. This of course adds to the authenticity and age of the textile. Light surface dirt is present.
Flag is housed in a modern gold toned frame under plexi-glass. Frame measures 34” high x 53 ¼” wide. Flag measures 28” high x 48” wide. Blue field measures 4 ½” wide. Muslin border is 1 ½” wide. Stars measure 1 ½” across. Center star is 2”. [SM]
