An example of the pattern 1872-1880’s enlisted man’s kepi. This type of cap was introduced into the regulations for the U.S. Army and other branches of services during the post-Civil War era. Internally, the cap still contains its complete leather sweat band and “Bag type” brown polished cotton liner. The visor and chin-strap exhibit’s the classic patent leather coating (Which over the years has crazed and wrinkled).

Chin Strap: ¾”
Height of cap: Front Rise. 2 ¼” at the rear 5 ½”
Crown diameter: 4 ¾”
