CIVIL WAR FORAGE CAP WITH ORIGINAL INFANTRY INSIGNIA

$2,950.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: M24075

Standard issue US forage cap as issued to Union soldiers.

The blue wool body is made of a material that has a slightly coarser feel than is normal. It is in good condition with only the slightest wear and no visible moth holes. Both side buttons are Infantry “I” buttons and they anchor a leather chin strap that is complete with brass slider and both keepers. The leather visor is in good condition and still firmly attached to the cap. Attached to the top disc is an original stamped brass Infantry hunting horn insignia.

The interior of the cap matches the exterior in condition. The dark sweatband is complete all the way around and shows light wear from use. The brown polished cotton lining is complete and solid. There is a small seam repair at the back. Present in the crown is the remains of the paper maker’s label.

This is a nice solid cap that will display well.
