Black felt cork helmet with plume and aiguillette.
The body of this helmet is in excellent condition. It has no visible weak spots, creases or rips. The exterior is very clean. There is black leather trim running around the bottom edge. This edging is complete and shows only minor wear.
Around the base of the crown is a black leather band and chinstrap. The latter is anchored by two stamped brass side buttons with crossed cannons. Attached to the front is a large stamped brass spread-winged eagle with a patriotic shield on its chest with crossed cannons behind it. At center of the shield is a silver number “5.” The top of the crown has a red horsehair crest attached to a brass post decorated with another spread-winged eagle with patriotic shield. The base of the crest post consists of very detailed stamped brass oak leaves. Also attached to the helmet is a red aiguillette.
The interior of the helmet matches the exterior in condition. The brown leather sweatband is perfect. It meas. approx. 2.00 inches in height and is complete all the way around. The rest of the interior is very clean.
