Black felt helmet with brass spike.

The body of this helmet is in good condition throughout with a very clean exterior. There is black leather trim running around the bottom edge. This edging is complete and shows very little wear.

Around the base of the crown is a black leather band with a leather chinstrap. The latter is in good condition and anchored by two stamped brass side buttons with engineer insignia. Attached to the front is a large stamped brass spread-winged eagle with a patriotic shield on its chest with an applied silver Company letter “A” and below it an applied silver engineer insignia. There is no regimental number. The eagle plate is attached to the helmet body by only one wire as the second has broken off. The eagle will move only if touched. Otherwise it holds to its proper place.  The top of the crown has a brass spike attached to a stamped brass oak leaf wreath base.

The interior of the helmet is in excellent condition. The brown leather sweatband is perfect. It meas. approx. 2.00 inches in height and is complete all the way around. The rest of the interior is very clean.
