This early, black wool officer’s slouch hat has two black silk cockades sewn on the turned-up brim. Each cockade has a brass spread-winged eagle button in the center. Patina on buttons is bright. On both the front and back of hat are two decorative brass buttons which have a darkened patina. Body of hat has a black tape band sewn all around the edge. Inside of hat is lined with a four inch wide brown leather sweatband. Leather has some light crazing and much of the stitching is loose or missing. There are six small holes on the top of the hat.
Hat measures 15 inches at the widest part at the brim, 10 ½ inches across the crown, and 7 inches high.
This is an outstanding collectible with a lot of character.
