This set of insignias is attractively displayed in a gilt-framed shadow box measuring 18.5” x 10” x 1.5”. The interior is matted in an appropriate “medical” green color. At the top is situated a matching pair of 2nd lieutenant shoulder straps measuring 5.25” x 2.5”. These are high quality, triple bordered, medical straps. The bullion embroidered borders are in perfect condition with just the right amount of tarnishing for their age. The green velvet fields are also in perfect condition. These may have never been sewn on to a uniform as there is no visible wear and they still feature straight edges and are perfectly rectangular.
Mounted below these is a second matched pair of 2nd lieutenant straps. These are also medical straps and probably saw service, as they show some wear, fading, and pulls. This pair of straps is double bordered and measures 4.25” x 1.5”. The bullion embroidery is in very good shape but features splotchy areas of tarnishing. There are “pulls” to the thin “wire twists” that border the embroidery and the outer “twist” is missing from the strap on the right. The green velvet interiors are uniformly faded to a light green. Overall these are in nice condition showing honest wear.
Mounted between the latter pair of straps is an embroidered infantry hat insignia. The French horn design for the Infantry is embroidered on a 3.5” x 2.5” square piece of black velvet. The bullion embroidery shows areas of tarnish and there is a few loose threads but overall is complete and attractive. There is some moth damage to the black background material adjacent to the loop in the horn and around the outer edges.
This is a very attractive and displayable item. [JET]
