Coat is made of dark blue broadcloth. The condition of the exterior is outstanding. There are some very minor scattered tiny pinholes but in order to find them you really have to look close at the surface of the material. There really is nothing that detracts from the fine appearance of this garment.

Each shoulder has a Captain of Infantry shoulder strap. The straps are in matching condition and look to be original to the coat. They have a double bullion border and a sky-blue rank field that shows only light fading from age. The inner and outer jaceron border on each strap is in excellent condition while the bullion Captain’s rank bars are also excellent.

The nine buttons down the front are all infantry “I” buttons and all have a raised mark in a depressed channel that reads “HARRINGTON & BOGUE BALTIMORE.” All appear to be original to the coat. The three buttons on each cuff are also infantry “I” buttons as are the four buttons on the tail. All of these are “SCOVILLE MFG. CO. WATERBURY” marked except one tail button which matches the backmarks on the front buttons.  Each tail has a lined pocket. Buttonholes are machine done. All exterior seams are tight.

The interior of the coat is as nice as the exterior. The lining is present and complete on the body, sleeves and skirt. Chest has a wonderful quilted pattern with a horizontal pocket in the left breast. Sleeve and body lining seams are excellent. There are no signs of wear on the lining, no staining, no stress separation, nothing. This coat has as nice an interior as you would ever want to see.

This is truly a museum quality piece.  [ad]
