Rare, still in the original box, set of enlistedman's shoulder scales as worn by the U.S. Marines in the Civil War. The Marine Corps scales are similar to those of the U.S. Army except they were larger in size and had a fringe plate. This pair is 4 7/8 inches wide at the widest point. This set comes complete with the fringe plates, jacket mounts and turnbuckles. Box has original tissue paper and label on one end. Three of the four corners on the box have split. Same with the lid. Side label reads “ONE PAIR SHOULDER SCALES” with an ink number 1443 stamped on it. Lid is stamped on edge “Polished Brass.” One of the pair is maker marked.
