Blue ribbon meas. approx. 2.00 inches wide by 5.50 inches long suspended from a top bar of stamped brass with “CONNECTICUT” on a piece of celluloid at center. At center of the ribbon is a faded GAR Membership badge. Above the badge and below the top bar is “ADMIRAL FOOTE POST, NO. 17 NEW HAVEN, CONN.” In faded lettering. Below the central badge is “NAT’L ENCAMPMENT ROCHESTER, N. Y. AUG. 21-26 1911.” Again, this lettering is faded. At bottom is a white celluloid disc in a brass frame. At center of the disc is a brown canteen surrounded by black lettering that reads “1861-1865 WE DRANK FROM THE SAME CANTEEN.”
The original pin remains on the reverse of the top bar. The ribbon is dirty from age and storage and has two small stress separations along the right edge. One is near the top and the other about halfway down the side.
Admiral Andrew Hull Foote was from Connecticut and was famous for helping General Grant capture Forts Henry and Donelson.
