Dated 1884. From the National Cemetery at Andersonville, GA, this cane measures 38” in length, and .75” in diameter at the base of its handle. Original printed handle inscription: “This Cane ….Is made from a log of the Confederate Prison at Andersonville, GA. The wood is the yellow (or pitch) pine common to that country and by reason of its resinous qualities is very heavy and durable./…..National Cemetery/ Andersonville , GA, May 15, 1884/ I hereby certify that the canes made by John W. Jones were made from timber taken from the old stockade of the prison at this place and can be relied upon as genuine relics of this historic spot./ J.M. Bryant/ Superintendent.”
