Stamped brass top bar with pin on back. Face of bar is decorated with a scroll design. Two ribbons hang from this top bar. One was red but has faded to pink. This ribbon meas. approx. 3.00 inches long with an engraving of a man in civilian clothes at center and below “CAMP AARON F. STEVENS.” The engraving and lettering are done in black ink. The second ribbon is blue and meas. approx. 6.00 inches. This also has black lettering on it that reads “SIXTEENTH ANNUAL ENCAMPMENT, NEW HAMPSHIRE VETERAN’S ASSOCIATION. AT WEIRS AUGUST 23-26, 1892.” Some curling at the bottom otherwise the item is in nice condition.
Aaron F. Stevens was 41 years old and living in Nashua, New Hampshire when he was commissioned Major of the 1st New Hampshire Infantry. He was mustered out in August of 1861 at Concord, New Hampshire. He was commissioned Colonel of the 13th New Hampshire Infantry on August 23, 1862. He was wounded twice with this regiment, once at Cold Harbor in June of 1864 and again at Fort Harrison in September of the same year. He was promoted Brigadier General by Brevet on December 8, 1864. He was finally mustered out on June 21, 1865 at Richmond, Va.
