This white ribbon meas. approx. 6.00 inches long x 2.00 inches wide. At center is a 1st Division, 3rd Corps insignia while below it in blue block letters is “57TH Pa. VOLS.” At very bottom is the year 1893 but this is crossed out and the year “1894” printed below it in heavy black numbers.
The ribbon has light surface dirt throughout and minor fraying on ends. The printed information has faded just a bit.
The 57th Pennsylvania Volunteers was recruited in the autumn of 1861 and was assigned to the 3rd Corps of the Army of the Potomac. It saw action throughout the war with its heaviest loss being suffered in the battle of the Wilderness. After the deactivation of the 3rd Corps the regiment was assigned to the 2nd Corps where it finished the war. The regiment lost 161 officers and men killed or mortally wounded and another 217 dies of disease.
